The
focus model is about taking our focus and thinking about
what's happening right this second. Great leaders are
able to think about other people other than themselves
and have the ability to shift focus without losing it.
This ability to focus sets people apart and the ability
to think about how they solve problems. If you can shift
your thinking, you can improve your long-term thinking
ability. The key thing is just knowing when you're in
the moment right here.
-
Here and Now
This is the ultimate focus point. In the Spider Web
challenge, teams were successful because so many
members were able to focus on the tasks here
and now. However, being in the here and now can also
cause you to make some very critical mistakes.
-
Now and Somewhere Else
If you can understand other people you are affecting
by your behaviour, this allows you to zoom out and
focus on those around you. Without this ability you
will be in a very small tunnel and that is when you
get hurt in relationships.
-
Here, Now and Later
This is another zoom out where thinking starts to
shift in what is called global mentality. When
leaders go out and make plans they focus on the
here, now and later.
-
Global
This not only includes here, now and later, but also
includes those things everywhere else. This is also
the future. One of the things that is hard for
individuals is to have the ability to shift focus.
It is important to zoom out once in awhile and
consider how what you are doing is affecting others.
